The Federated Comunity REUNA (Comunidad Federada REUNA or COFRe) is a platform, available for chilean academic and research institutions and it tries to facilitate the management of the user's web access to resources. This access management is also known as federated access.

Through this platform, users and institutions that offer their services comprise a trusted network, in which the user's authenticity is granted and the access of web resources are enabled by a single user identity.

Non-federated versus federated access schema.

The advantages of federated access are:

  • To provide a single identity, to each user, to access the web resources.
  • Unify access to web resources (Single Sign-On or SSO).
  • Scalability, for the identity manager and the service provider institutions, because they can establish a relationship through the federation.
